Costa Rica, Origenes
Our recent Costa Rican coffee offerings are the result of years-long partnerships with the producers there. None of this would be possible without Ricardo Azofeifa, our export partner, local guide, and coffee producer. This year, we’re excited to offer a coffee from his farm, Origenes. His hope and goal is to use his farm as a testing ground for non-native and native Costa Rican coffee varietals, that way he can educate and equip other area producers to grow specialty coffees that work in the Costa Rican climate. He is a fierce advocate and voice for the Costa Rican coffee community worldwide.
This lot from Origenes is a blend of 10 different varieties grown on the farm. Included are a few varieties typical to Costa Rica in addition to some that are new to Costa Rica, including a few Ethiopian landrace varieties. After harvest, the cherries are milled at nearby Corazón de Jesús and then dried on raised beds back at Origenes. The result is a cup with beautiful complexity, vibrant acidity, and fruit forward notes.
We taste Peach Tea, Acai, and Pineapple.
